World Updates: 28th International Book Fair organized in Muscat; Palestine PM submitted his resignation

President Mahmoud Abbas made clear that he would like the authority to remain in place after the Gaza war. The US wants a reformed Palestinian Authority to be formed to rule Gaza after the war ends, but many obstacles remain.

The 28th edition of the Muscat International Book Fair is underway in Oman. It is being organized at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Center (OCEC). The event showcases 152 cultural activities, with participation from 34 countries and 847 publishers. It includes several entries on the impact of AI on culture and creativity. The fair started on 22 February and will end on 2 March.

Palestine PM submits government’s resignation, reforms will happen

Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh said his government is resigning. This move will pave the way for US-backed reforms in the Palestinian Authority. On the other hand, President Mahmoud Abbas made it clear that he would like the authority to remain in place even after the Gaza war. Harsh arrested for four deaths during human trafficking

US authorities have arrested Indian-origin Harsh Kumar Ramanlal Patel in Chicago in connection with the investigation into a human trafficking incident in January 2022. In this incident, a family of four people from Gujarat, including two children, were found frozen in the icy cold while trying to enter America illegally from Canada.

Patel, who was arrested at Chicago airport last week, is also known as Dirty Harry, Param Singh and Haresh Rameshlal Patel. Four family members, Jagdish (39), Vaishaliben (37), Vihangi (11) and Dharmik (3), were found dead in the cold, according to court documents and an affidavit filed in the case against Patel in the US District Court of Minnesota.

After the bodies were recovered, Border Patrol officials arrested Steve Shand, 47, on January 19 for transporting two other Indian nationals. The family was from Dingucha near Gandhinagar in Gujarat, India. Investigators have uncovered WhatsApp exchanges and financial transactions between Harsh Kumar and Shand.
