New York: Indian man dies tragically in fire, family demands mortal remains; Embassy preparing to send to India

An Indian journalist Fazil Khan died in a fire in an apartment in New York on Friday. He was a journalist for The Hechinger Report, a New York-based media company. A 27-year-old Indian journalist died in a fire in Harlan, New York on Friday. The Indian Embassy in New York has identified the deceased as Fazil Khan. 18 other people living in the building have also been injured in this accident, who have been admitted to the hospital for treatment.

The Consulate General of India in New York expressed condolences on Khan’s death and said it was providing all possible assistance to repatriate his body to his family in India.

Attempt to send mortal remains to India

“Saddened to learn about the death of 27-year-old Indian national Fazil Khan in an unfortunate fire incident in Harlem, New York,” the Consulate said in a post on Saturday.

He posted, “Saddened to learn about the death of 27 year old Indian national Fazil Khan in an unfortunate incident of fire in an apartment building in Harlem, New York. India in New York is in touch with the family and friends of late Fazil Khan. We are providing all possible assistance to India to bring his mortal remains.”

The condition of four people is very serious

Firefighters said the fire broke out on the third floor of the building at 2.14 pm on Friday. Firefighters reached the scene within minutes to find people who had escaped the fire. The fire department said people were also seen hanging out of windows on the fifth floor.

The victims were trapped on the 5th floor of the building. The fire department has said that a total of 18 people have been injured in this accident, out of which the condition of four people is critical.
