Texas. Paul Alexander, who lived inside an iron lung for 70 years, died at the age of 78. His death was announced on his GoFundMe page on Tuesday.

Paul was unable to breathe on his own

Alexander was forced to live inside an iron structure after suffering from polio at the age of six. Alexander, known as Polio Paul, was paralyzed from the neck down in 1952 by the disease, leaving him unable to breathe on his own.

He was taken to a hospital in Texas and regained consciousness while on a mechanical lung. Doctors said that as long as he survives, he will have to live inside a mechanical lung. He lived inside an iron lung for more than 70 years.

During this time, Paul went to college, became a lawyer, and also became a published author. His story positively impacted people around the world. Christopher Ulmer, who updated his page, wrote that Paul was an incredible role model who will always be remembered.
