Massachusetts RMV, Department of Transitional Assistance impacted by outages

A pair of Massachusetts state agencies are experiencing outages impacting business on Wednesday.

The Registry of Motor Vehicles reported at 8 a.m. that a statewide outage is halting the department from processing transactions online, in service centers and over the phone. Officials alerted customers that they could use their bank account option as an alternative payment method.

The state Department of Transitional Assistance then reported shortly after 10:30 a.m. that “some technical challenges” are impacting access to DTA Connect, a platform that lets users view and manage case information.

The DTA oversees the state’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and other initiatives focused on economic assistance, pathways to work and health incentives.

A spokesperson for the RMV did not immediately provide information on when business will be back up and running fully. The agency experienced a national outage that spanned several hours on March 21.

While operations remained down around noon, the RMV sent out a release urging the public to beware of “deceptive and mimic websites” and to use only Mass.GOV/RMV for information or to perform transactions, including when trying to renew a license or registration.

“While there has been no sharp increase in reports of deceptive and mimic websites to the RMV,” the release states, “this is a busy time of year for customer transactions so the RMV is issuing this reminder to the public about sites which have been created to mislead customers into thinking they have reached the official RMV website.”
