State Police are investigating the crash but do not suspect driver impairment, they said.
A man was seriously injured after a crash near a New Hampshire toll caused his car to go up in flames, officials said.
Patrick Jones, 43, of South Portland, Maine, was taken to the hospital after the accident with serious but non life-threatening injuries, New Hampshire State Police said in a statement. A passenger in the car, a child under 18, was not injured but taken to the hospital as a precaution.
New Hampshire State Police were called to the Hampton Toll Plaza at about 4:15 p.m. Saturday for reports of a car crash, according to the statement.
Responders found a gray 2021 Ford F-150 pickup truck “fully engulfed in flames,” police said. Hampton Fire and Rescue were called to the scene and put out the fire.
Investigation shows that the car was going north on I-95 toward the toll plaza when Jones suddenly changed lanes, officials said.
The car then hit a concrete abutment next to a tollbooth, went airborne, and caught fire, officials said.
The toll booth operator in the adjacent booth at the time of the incident was not injured, according to police.
Multiple lanes in the area were closed after the incident for investigation, according to the statement. The crash remains under investigation but impairment is not suspected to be a factor, police said.
