Haiti: America recalled some personnel from its embassy amid civil war

In view of security amid the ongoing civil war in Haiti, the European Union delegation has temporarily reduced its presence here. According to sources, the embassies of Germany and the European Union are also evacuating their employees from here.

Amidst the increasing violence and state of emergency in Haiti, the US military launched a campaign to recall many personnel from its embassy there. This step has been taken by America after increase in violence, posing a threat to the government and promoting large number of displacements.

Earlier this month, armed gangs had planned a prison break in Haiti’s two largest prisons. Due to which thousands of prisoners escaped from the jail. The armed gang also demanded the resignation of its Prime Minister Ariel Henry during this period. Haiti’s PM has fled the country and is pleading with the international community for intervention by UN-backed security forces.

American Southern Command issued statement


The US Southern Command clarified that the operation to withdraw embassy personnel has been carried out only in keeping with the security of the embassy. “This airlift of personnel in and out of the embassy is consistent with our standard practice to enhance embassy security around the world, and there were no Haitian nationals on board the military aircraft,” he said.

The European Union delegation has also temporarily reduced its presence in Haiti due to security concerns. According to sources, the embassies of Germany and the European Union are also evacuating their employees from here.

Violence continues in Haiti


The situation is continuously worsening in the fire of civil war violence in the Caribbean country Haiti. Due to this violence spreading in the country, 362,000 Haitians were displaced. Armed gangs have captured the country’s capital. They are targeting many government buildings including Rashtrapati Bhavan. Bullets are being fired on the streets. A state of emergency has been imposed in Haiti for 72 hours after armed gangs are vandalizing shops and homes.
