It appears that Patriots quarterback Drake Maye made a positive impression on the New York Giants during a clip of a pre-draft meeting that was aired on HBO’s Hard Knocks.

Giants coach Brian Daboll is shown quizzing Maye on football terminology. The conversation flowed easily as Maye answered questions quickly and accurately.

“Easy stuff,” Maye said with a shrug during one point in the video.

The episode also showed Giants general manager Joe Schoen talking about his interest in trading for the No. 3 pick in this year’s draft, which the Patriots used to select Maye.

“New England is as far away as they could possibly be,” Schoen said, pointing his finger. “I’m just going to go down there and say ‘hey’ before you do anything at 3, just let us know. Just plant a seed if you are going to move the pick, don’t do it without giving us a call. We’re interested.”

Schoen walked over to Patriots Executive Vice President of Player Personnel Eliot Wolf and told Wolf to call him if he had “any inkling” of trading the pick.

Wolf had said leading up to the draft that the Patriots were open to trading the pick under the right circumstances.

“We’ve had a couple of teams call, and it’s kind of been this conversation,” Wolf said.

Both the Giants and Patriots ended up keeping their picks. The Patriots took Maye at No. 3 and New York took LSU receiver Malik Nabers at No. 6.
