A Woodridge man is accused of speeding from police from Carol Stream, Wheaton, Elmhurst and Villa Park over the weekend before Lombard officers found him hiding in a hotel room, authorities said Tuesday.
Jason Wesley, 32, has been charged with one felony count of aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer.
DuPage County Judge Joshua Dieden granted prosecutors’ request to detain Wesley pretrial. The court also ordered Wesley to be detained in two prior cases stemming from charges he violated an order of protection.
At the time of his arrest, Wesley was out on pretrial release in multiple cases on charges of violating an order of protection.
Prosecutors alleged Carol Stream police tried to make a traffic stop on a Toyota Corolla driven by Wesley near North Avenue and Schmale Road at about 11:41 p.m. Saturday.
Officers were familiar with Wesley, who had outstanding arrest warrants, and the Toyota, according to the release.
When an officer positioned his squad car behind Wesley and turned on his emergency lights and siren, Wesley sped away, reaching 109 mph in a 45 mph zone east on North Avenue, authorities said in the release.
Wesley drove erratically, narrowly missing other vehicles and passing vehicles on the shoulder, authorities said. After nearly 2 miles, the officer stopped the pursuit for safety reasons.
At about 1 a.m., on Sunday, Wheaton police spotted the Toyota and attempted a traffic stop. But when officers turned on their emergency lights and siren, Wesley again fled, and officers ended the chase for safety reasons, the news release stated.
Several hours later, at about 4:57 a.m., Elmhurst and Villa Park police saw the Toyota and turned on their emergency lights and sirens to conduct a traffic stop. Wesley once again fled, according to the release.
Officers pursued Wesley for roughly a dozen miles but ended the pursuit near Busse and Central roads when Wesley’s car hit speeds of approximately 114 mph, authorities said.
Several hours later, officers received information that Wesley was staying at the Comfort Suites in Lombard. Lombard officers located Wesley hiding in a room. He was taken into custody without incident.
Wesley is next due in court for his arraignment on Aug. 5.
