A North Andover woman is facing multiple charges related to a Sunday night crash that resulted in the death of a Lawrence woman.

Vickiana Vargas-Guevara, 28, was allegedly drunk when she crashed into a building in North Andover around 11 p.m. on Sunday, according to the Essex County District Attorney’s office. Lawrence resident Diana Melo, 37, was transported to Lawrence General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. 

Vargas-Guevara is charged with motor vehicle homicide while under the influence of alcohol and being negligent; motor vehicle homicide by reckless operation; leaving the scene of a collision resulting in death; leaving the scene of property damage; operating under the influence of liquor; and reckless operation, the DA’s office said. She was arraigned on the charges in Lawrence District Court on Monday, with bail set at $50,000.

She was ordered to have no alcohol, to not drive, and to undergo a substance abuse evaluation, the DA’s office said.

Vargas-Guevara is set to return to court for a pretrial hearing on July 17.
