Wellesley coach Mike Sabin courts 600th tennis win

Mike Sabin was merely looking for a place in which to coach tennis.

Wellesley provided that opportunity and the rest is history.

Sabin earned a milestone 600th win Friday afternoon as Wellesley improved to 11-6 with a 5-0 boys victory over Braintree in a Bay State Conference contest. In typical Sabin fashion, he downplayed the personal accomplishment.

“It just means I’ve been around a long time,” said Sabin, who started coaching at Wellesley High 35 years ago. “I’ve been fortunate to have a lot of kids here who care about the sport and want to do well. When I was looking for a tennis coaching job, I was hoping to find a place where the kids wanted to work and improve and Wellesley was it.”

In other action, Nik Narina, Akarsh Janarthanan and Conor Rea all won their matches in straight sets as Andover defeated North Andover 5-0 in the Merrimack Valley Conference.
