The week in Tucker
Aug. 30 — Hello, Tucker readers!
It’s Cathy from Rough Draft with my weekly newsletter on hot topics in Tucker. (And speaking of hot, how about those escalating temperatures on your car’s dashboard every afternoon?)
This week we are looking at the behind-the-scenes drama regarding a proposed subdivision at Tucker-adjacent Heritage Golf Links, more restaurants coming to the area, and the impact that a public-private partnership can make on students.
📧 I’d love to hear from you. And please let your friends know about the newsletter. They can sign up for free here.
Have a great Labor Day weekend!

Another mulligan for new residential development?
⛳️ A year-long effort to build a new residential community on a nine-hole golf course has hit another delay after a rezoning agenda item was lifted without comment from the Gwinnett County Board of Commission’s Aug. 27 docket. Neighbors and its developer, Parkland Homes, have been at loggerheads about the density and type of housing for the proposed 46-acre tract.
Little things make a big difference
📘 A partnership between Metro Atlanta Title 1 schools and SCANA Energy has resulted in dramatic improvements in students’ test scores, grades, and overall esteem.
Of the 10 schools in Georgia that SCANA funds, two of them in DeKalb County – Stone Mill Elementary in Stone Mountain and Woodward Elementary School in Brookhaven – receive funds to run free after-school homework centers. SCANA funds homework centers that supply minority, special education, and ESL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) students with after-school tutoring. The results have been significant.
