Put on your running or walking shoes to participate in this year’s Sandy Springs Education Force annual Lightning 5K/10K on Oct. 26, an official Peachtree Qualifier.
The race supports educational programs for public school students in Sandy Springs, according to a Sandy Springs Education Force (SSEF) news release..
Competitors will receive a T-shirt, food, and a swag bag of goodies, but register by Oct. 9 to guarantee a shirt in the proper size.
All finishers earn medals and the top three kids and adults in multiple categories receive awards. After the race participants, volunteers, and other supporters can enjoy a post-race party that will feature a DJ, vendors with giveaways, and drawings for prizes donated by local businesses.

Businesses, neighborhoods, and other groups are encouraged to create teams. Those supporters who prefer to cheer on the runners from the sidelines can sign up to volunteer along the race route and be part of the action. Or they can support Sandy SSEF’s mission by creating individual fundraisers to amplify the impact.
Juliana, a recent Riverwood International Charter School graduate, shared how the SSEF SAIL mentoring program opened new doors for her.
“The SAIL program was truly a life-changing experience. The college application process felt overwhelming at first, but my mentor, Debbie, was there with me every step of the way,” Juliana said. “It wasn’t just about getting into college; it was about forming a bond built on trust and care.”
Today Juliana attends Georgia State University Perimeter College, something she once thought was out of reach.
By participating in the Lightning 5K/10K, runners help fund this and other essential programs and make animpact on students’ lives. SSEF organizers offered appreciation for its Provost sponsor, Sandy Springs Together, and Doctorate sponsors, Strategic Benefits Advisors and Summit Contracting Group, and all race supporters.
