Kingswood Church, a Methodist church located in Dunwoody,  will welcome Rev. Dr. Dana Everhart June 30 as its senior pastor.

According to a church press release,  Everhart will replace Rev. Charles Broome, who has served in that role since 2015. He is retiring from full-time ministry and  will serve as a chaplain at the Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Doctor’s Hospital in Augusta.

Bishop Robin Dease, who leads the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church, announced the pastoral change at the church’s annual conference.

“I am beyond excited to be appointed to Kingswood Church and becoming part of the Dunwoody community,” Everhart said. “God has amazing and wonderful plans for our time together, and I look forward to this new opportunity.”

Everhart recently served as a missional specialist for 88 congregations in the conference, the church statement said.  He has also served in other denominational roles, including as director of the Center for Clergy Excellence and district superintendent for the Atlanta Emory district, and previously held appointments at Atlanta-area churches, including St. Mark United Methodist Church in Midtown and McDonough First United Methodist Church.

Everhart and his wife, Sally, who have three adult children, are moving to Atlanta from Augusta.

“Kingswood Church is such a welcoming environment,” Everhart said. “My role as a new pastor isn’t to bring change, but to bring the message of God through scripture and prayer, and to work alongside the church’s leaders to carry out the church’s mission in ways that glorify God. There’s so much we can do together for the greater good of the community and the world.”

Kingswood will hold a reception to receive Rev. Everhart and Sally on June 30 after 11 a.m. service.

Kingswood, founded in 1968, held its first worship service on Sept. 8, 1968, in a classroom in what was then Peachtree High School. The congregation was chartered with 76 members, eight of whom attended the Sept. 9 service. Before moving to its current location at the corner of Tilly Mill Road and North Peachtree Road in 1974, the congregation held worship services for a time at Chesnut Elementary School.

According to the release, the church has a range of ministries for all ages to serve the community in faith, including a preschool, active youth and scouting ministries, and mission programs. Worship services are at 11 and 8:45 am on Sunday mornings. Visit https://kingswood.church for more information.
