After undergoing imaging on his right knee Wednesday, the outfielder landed on the injured list for the second time this season.

The Red Sox placed outfielder Tyler O’Neill on the 10-day injured list with knee inflammation, the team announced ahead of Wednesday’s game.

The move, which comes just hours after O’Neill underwent precautionary imaging, is retroactive to May 26. Infielder Enmanuel Valdez was recalled from Triple-A Worcester to fill his spot on the active roster.

“I think we’ve done everything possible to keep him on the field. He’s done everything possible to stay on the field. He should be back soon,” manager Alex Cora said ahead of Boston’s 6-1 loss to the Orioles, per the Globe’s Julian McWilliams.

O’Neill missed his fourth-straight game Wednesday, following an early exit from Saturday’s matchup versus the Brewers. The slugging outfielder told reporters that he’s been dealing with lingering pain in his right knee “for a little while.”

“It just kind of intensified a little more than I wanted it to. The trainers noticed and took me out of the game,” O’Neill said, per MassLive’s Christopher Smith.

O’Neill is batting .236 so far this season and is 11-for-73 (.151) with 36 strikeouts during May. His replacement, 25-year-old Valdez, hit .156 across 28 games for the Red Sox this season.

Coming off of a disappointing three-game set in Baltimore, the Red Sox kick off a home series against the Detroit Tigers Thursday.
