Schaumburg police officers assisted a person injured by a gunshot wound Wednesday afternoon on the 800 block of South Braintree Drive, according to an alert issued by the village.

The alert sent out just before 4 p.m. said the person later was taken to a hospital for further treatment.

Braintree is closed to traffic from Cornell Lane to Cambridge Drive, and police are advising members of the public to avoid the area for the time being.
