FOXBOROUGH — The Patriots pledged plenty of surprises during Tom Brady’s Hall of Fame induction at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday night.

Sure enough, Robert Kraft announced before Brady officially donned his red jacket that the Patriots will officially retire the legendary quarterback’s No. 12 jersey.

“Tonight, I promise that it will never be worn again as the No. 12 is now officially retired,” Kraft announced in front of a raucous Gillette Stadium.

Brady will be the 35th inductee into the Patriots Hall of Fame, and the eighth player to have his number retired.

In addition, Kraft announced that the Patriots will place a 12-foot bronze statue of Brady up in the plaza outside of the Patriots Hall of Fame. The statue will be unveiled during the 2024 season.

Brady’s jersey retirement stood as one of many memorable moments that took place on Wednesday. From Jay-Z introducing Brady with a live performance of “Public Service Announcement,” to Randy Moss’ tearing up from a booming ovation to Bill Belichick embracing Brady on stage — this was a night for the ages in Boston sports.
