Aliyah Konton, 15, who went missing on Sunday, was found safe in Barnstable on Wednesday, Mashpee Police Chief Scott Carline announced on Wednesday.
A 15-year-old girl who had been missing since Sunday has been located and is safe as of Wednesday, Mashpee police said.
Another juvenile is being charged with assault and battery after a fight that allegedly happened between the two at a local high school last month, police said.
Mashpee Police Chief Scott Carline announced that Aliyah Konton had been found in Barnstable, a neighboring town. Police previously described Konton as an “endangered juvenile” and said that local, state, and federal resources had been used in an “intense search” to locate her.
“I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the Barnstable Police Department in particular, as well as all the law enforcement professionals — local, state, and federal, in general — who assisted in the course of this investigation,” Carline said in a press conference at about 4:40 p.m announcing Konton had been found.
The department said Wednesday afternoon that a 13-year-old is now charged with seven counts of assault and battery stemming from a fight that allegedly happened between Konton and the student at Mashpee High School. Police began an investigation into the alleged assault on May 25 and obtained video footage of the fight, which was posted on Snapchat.
Interviews were conducted and evidence was also gathered throughout the investigation, police said.
One of Konton’s classmates previously told WCVB that Konton was new to Mashpee High School, and a close friend of the family said she had seen video footage that seemed to show Konton was the victim of the assault.
Carline said that the investigation into “potential accomplices” in the assault is still ongoing and that it would be “inappropriate” for him to comment on the investigation until it is complete.
Carline thanked the Mashpee community for the “tips, concern, and support” throughout the investigation and search for Konton.
“The town of Mashpee came together for one of its own,” Carline said at the press conference.
