The first full-length trailer for “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” hit the internet Thursday, giving audiences a fuller look at the sequel to Tim Burton’s quirky 1988 classic partially filmed in Massachusetts last year.

In the “Beetlejuice 2” teaser trailer released in March, we saw three generations of Deetz women gather for a funeral. Jenna Ortega (“Wednesday”) plays Astrid Deetz, the daughter of Lydia (Winona Ryder) and granddaughter of Delia (Catherine O’Hara).

The new trailer confirmed our theory that the funeral is for Delia’s husband, Charles Deetz. (The actor who played Charles, Jeffrey Jones, pleaded no contest in 2003 to charges of soliciting a minor to pose for sexually explicit photographs and has acted in very few projects since then.)

Despite Lydia’s warnings, Astrid, who appears to be around the same age Lydia was in the first film, says the name of the dreaded poltergeist Betelgeuse (Michael Keaton) three times, summoning him to the attic of the old Connecticut home.

Once the ‘juice is loose, the Deetz women head to the Afterlife, where “trouble is brewing” as well, according to a studio synopsis. Many of Burton’s wonderfully wacky visual elements from the original film — including the man with the shrunken head and the deadly desert sand worms — are back, and look fantastic.

The new trailer also provides a first look at new cast members, including Justin Theroux (“The Leftovers”), Monica Bellucci (“Spectre”) as the poltergeist’s wife, and Willem Dafoe (“Spider-Man”) as a “police officer in the afterlife” and “former B movie action star.”

“Beetlejuice 2” filming locations

Production on “Beetlejuice 2” originally kicked off back in May 2023, shooting most of its scenes in Vermont. (That’s also where one of the film’s iconic sculptures was stolen in July.)

Crews began to set up in Melrose in July 2023 but were forced to shoot only brief footage without actors due to the dual Hollywood strikes.

Once the strikes ended, Burton and co. returned to Melrose in November to finish the final days of production.

Ortega, best known for playing Wednesday Addams on the Netflix series “Wednesday,” was seen wearing a purple and black striped dress and riding a bike along the street between houses that had been decked out with Halloween decorations.

“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” will be released in theaters September 6.
