The American Cancer Society will be bringing the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk back to Atlantic Station on Saturday, Oct. 12.
The event is expected to draw together nearly 10,000 Metro Atlanta residents in a display of solidarity while raising nearly $750,000 to fund innovative research and patient support.
“Making Strides Against Breast Cancer has grown into the nation’s largest and most impactful breast cancer movement over the past three decades,” said Lisa Obser, senior development manager for the American Cancer Society. “It’s a day of celebration and remembrance, where participants can expect to find connection, comfort, resources, inspiration, and hope.”
New this year, the American Cancer Society has partnered with Bonfire to give participants a fun way to fundraise for Making Strides. Individuals and teams can sign up for the walk and then design and sell their own T-shirts. After their T-shirt fundraiser ends, 100% of the proceeds will be added to their Making Strides fundraising page.
“With our collective power, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer events can make the greatest impact to save lives,” Obser said. “The good news is death rates have declined by 43 percent since 1989 because of improvements in treatment and earlier detection. The five-year survival rate for breast cancer that has not spread to the lymph nodes or other location is 99 percent. There are more than 4 million breast cancer survivors alive today in the United States thanks largely to the work of the American Cancer Society.”
