From Monday, Sept. 30 through Friday, Oct. 4, motorists can expect lane closures in the North Druid Hills Road and I-85 area as the Georgia Department of Transportation continues a major construction project.
The improvement projects are designed to reduce crash frequency and congestion by adding a displaced left turn for travelers going westbound on North Druid Hills Road to I-85 southbound movement, constructing an additional bridge over I-85, and adding a braided ramp from the I-85 northbound off-ramp to the access road.
A displaced turn allows left-turning vehicles and through traffic to travel simultaneously through an intersection, eliminating left-turns at the main intersection. A similar model can be found at Ashford Dunwoody Road and I-285.
In July, GDOT completed the replacement of the 62-year-old bridge over Peachtree Creek on North Druid Hills Road near Buford Highway.
Closures include:
- One right lane on I-85 NB Frontage Road from SR 42/North Druid Hills Road to Cliff Valley Way will be closed Monday, Sept. 30 to Friday, Oct. 4, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- One left lane on I-85 SB at SR 42/North Druid Hills Road will be closed Thursday, Oct. 3 to Saturday, Oct. 5 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- One right lane on SR 42/North Druid Hills Road eastbound from Buford Highway to Briarcliff Road will be closed Monday, Sept. 30 to Thursday, Oct. 3 from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.
GDOT said motorists can expect delays and should exercise caution while traveling through work zones. Real-time information on work status and traffic conditions is available at www.511ga.org, or by downloading the Georgia 511 app.
