Holiday was named the winner of the second annual “Tenacious D MVP Award.”
While much of the post-NBA Finals awards discussion for the champion Celtics has centered around Jaylen Brown winning series MVP, Jrue Holiday also ended up with a prestigious trophy of his own.
Announced in a (fairly informal) recent social media post, Jack Black and fellow Tenacious D band member Kyle Gass revealed their choice for the second annual “Tenacious D MVP Award.”
“It’s that time again. Time to announce the winner of the Tenacious D MVP Award. And this year, the most ‘Tenacious D-efender’ in the NBA is Jrue Holiday,” said Black with characteristic gusto.
The eponymously named award was given to Lakers center Anthony Davis in 2023, its only other year of existence.
“For years, the Celtics have been knocking on the door, trying to win that championship, not quite being able to get there,” Black vigorously explained.
“But this year, there was something different. I wonder what changed this year? I wonder why they were victorious this year?” asked Black before shouting out Holiday again.
“The best of the best,” he concluded. “The cream of the crop.”
Holiday, who scored 15 points with 11 rebounds in the Game 5 as the Celtics clinched an 18th championship, reposted the video on his Instagram story.
“[Yo] this is crazy,” Holiday said in his repost. “One of my favorite [people]. Love you dude!”
The award also includes a trophy, which Black promised to get to Holiday.
“We love you, Jrue,” said Black. “We will deliver this to you in person or send it FedEx. Your choice. Would love to kick it poolside though. Peace out, my friend. Catch you on the flip flop.”
And while the newly-crowned Celtics champion has a victory parade to attend on Friday, it sounds like he might have interest in taking Black up on his offer.
“Send me the [address] brother! I’m there!” Holiday replied in the comment section.
