“I can’t stand them. I hate Boston,” Philadelphia 76ers center Embiid told ESPN’s NBA Countdown ahead of Game 4 Friday. “Great city, great fans, obviously they got some great players … but it hurts me a lot.”

Embiid, who has been on the Sixers since 2014, is no stranger to his team’s rivalry with the Celtics. The two organizations have faced each other three times in the playoffs over Embiid’s NBA career. However, Philadelphia has lost all three series.

Naturally, as Embiid and the 76ers watch Boston’s dominant playoff run as spectators, the 30-year-old seems sick of watching the Celtics succeed. So much so that he dismissed the idea that Boston could become a super team and win multiple NBA Finals over the next several seasons.

“I don’t think so. Not with the new CBA,” Embiid said.

The seven-foot-tall big man also alluded to injuries playing a role in allowing Boston to dominate in the regular season and playoffs. Embiid brought up ailments that plagued several Eastern Conference teams this season, including his own, a meniscus injury that derailed his year.

“You also gotta understand, the whole East was kinda hurt this year, myself included,” he said.

The Celtics won three of four regular season games against the Sixers this year. Philly’s lone victory came during the teams’ first meeting in November.

During Embiid’s appearance on NBA Countdown, he was seated next to the Los Angeles Clippers’ Paul George on the panel. At one point, the Philadelphia star was explaining what the Sixers need to do to improve this offseason to better compete with Boston, namely via player additions.

Embiid side-eyed George as he said “add some pieces,” perhaps hinting to Philly’s president of basketball operations Daryl Morey that he wants to play alongside the star forward.

Maybe the Celtics will find themselves up against a new-look 76ers team in 2024-25 as they try to become a super team, at Embiid’s dismay.
