Hillcrest at Brookhaven fire leaves 30 residents displaced

A fire broke out around 3 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5, at Hillcrest at Brookhaven, an apartment complex near the intersection of Briarwood Road and Buford Highway. No injuries were reported.

About 30 residents were displaced when the power to the building was turned off, according to DeKalb Fire Captain Jaeson Daniels.

“The fire broke out in a breezeway, and as a result there were a few units that were damaged by the fire,” Daniels said.

The cause of the fire is undetermined, however, Daniels said “it is not being investigated as a human act. We don’t know how it started, but we don’t think it’s arson.”

The scene has been turned over to Brookhaven Police Department.
