Four distinguished journalists will be inducted into the Atlanta Press Club Hall of Fame on Oct. 28 at the InterContinental Buckhead Atlanta.
The 2024 inductees are Valerie Boyd, Clark Howard, Tony Light, and Maria Saporta.
Boyd, who passed away in 2022, was the Charlayne Hunter-Gault Professor of Journalism at the University of Georgia. She founded the MFA Program in Narrative Nonfiction and authored the acclaimed biography “Wrapped in Rainbows: The Life of Zora Neale Hurston.”
Howard, a consumer advocate and financial expert, has been sharing money-saving advice for over 30 years. Now with Cox Media Group’s WSB Radio, he started “The Clark Howard Show” on WGST Radio in 1989, later gaining national syndication. Howard was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame in 2015.
Light, chief photographer at WSB-TV, has over four decades of experience capturing compelling visuals for Atlanta’s news. He celebrated 40 years at WSB-TV in 2017 and was inducted into the National Academy of Television Arts & Science Silver Circle in 2018.
Saporta, founder and executive editor of SaportaReport, is a veteran Atlanta journalist. She previously wrote for the Atlanta Business Chronicle and spent 27 years with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
In an announcement about the event, the APC says the Hall of Fame dinner “is Atlanta media’s biggest night of the year and recognizes journalists who have made a significant impact on journalism in Georgia and around the country.”
