The Bill Belichick era in Foxborough is long gone.

Nearly five months removed from the legendary head coach’s departure from the Patriots, first-year coach Jerod Mayo seems to be letting his players enjoy a little bit more fun on the job than his predecessor otherwise would have during a June workout.

Famous rapper Gunna visited Gillette Stadium and joined the team for a workout on Saturday, as shown in his Instagram story.

The 30-year-old artist hit the weight room with Patriots players and caught some passes via a football passing machine on a back field. Some of Gunna’s tracks could be heard playing in the weight room while everybody worked out. The artist wore a Patriots workout shirt and shorts to match the players in the room. As some would say, his drip was too hard.

Gunna seemed to be enjoying New England’s weight room despite the facility being ranked 32nd in the league and receiving an “F” grade on the latest team report card, which was graded by players earlier this year. The NFL Players Association explained that players said the quality of the equipment in the weight room and its small size contributed to its low grade.

Since Gunna was pumping iron in the weight room, perhaps you thought he was playing, but don’t expect him to get a big shot on the field any time soon. It’s not too easy for a rapper in his thirties to land a NFL roster spot. Don’t expect a three headed snake of rookie wide receivers Javon Baker, Ja’Lynn Polk, and Gunna to take over the field any time soon.

After Gunna caught a few quick passes, though, one person working the throwing machine asked this question directed toward the Patriots’ head coach:

“Where our 10-day contract at, Mayo?” he quipped.

Add the rapper to a growing list of hip hop artists associated with the New England football team. Rapper Meek Mill has been friends with Patriots owner Robert Kraft dating back to 2018 when the business mogul visited Mill while he was in prison. Since then, the two have spent time together publicly and have participated in philanthropy.

Perhaps Gunna will be the next rapper to join Kraft in the owner’s suite at a Patriots game.
