The Atlanta Extreme Heat Resilience and Design Symposium will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 7 at Georgia Tech to address the issue of extreme heat in the city.

Through a partnership between the design firm Perkins & Will, Advancing Reimaging Expanding Applying (AREA) Research, NOMAtlanta, and the Georgia Institute of Technology School of Architecture and support from the Georgia Chapter of the American Institute of Architects/Architectural Foundation of Georgia IMPACT grant, this event will build connections across design, practice, research, communities, health, and environment to foster dialogue.

Attendees will gain insight about the social and environmental impact of extreme heat in Atlanta, learn about local community efforts to monitor temperature variations, and hear from experts about this critical issue for Atlanta and the planet.

Students, designers, architects, urban and landscape architects, planners, and policymakers are especially encouraged to attend this symposium. With discussions about the impact of the built environment, heat-absorbing infrastructure, health risks, and challenges faced by vulnerable populations, the event will also explore city planning policy and development strategies to combat these climate issues.
