1. Remembering Hersh
🕯️ Hersh Goldberg-Polin, 23, an Israeli-American hostage with deep Atlanta ties, was confirmed killed in Gaza after 331 days in captivity. His parents, Jon Polin and Rachel Goldberg-Polin, had been vocal advocates for hostage release since his kidnapping on Oct. 7, 2023.
Goldberg-Polin’s connection to Atlanta stemmed from his family’s annual Passover retreats at Camp Ramah Darom in North Georgia. The news of his death reverberated through the metro area with spontaneous gatherings in Alpharetta, Atlanta, and Decatur.

2. Out on Film announces 37th festival lineup
🏳️🌈 Out on Film has announced the lineup for the 37th edition of the film festival, which runs from Sept. 26-Oct. 6.
Anthony Schatteman’s “Young Hearts” will play opening night of the festival, while Marco Calvani’s “High Tide” will play closing night.
Centerpiece screenings at the festival include “Duino,” from filmmaker Juan Pablo di Pace; “Becoming a Man in 127 Easy Steps,” from filmmakers Andrea James and Puppett; and “What a Feeling,” from filmmaker Kat Rohrer.

3. Take 5 with Megan Rogers, author of children’s book ‘Rosie Finds Her Shine’
📕 Even though she’s no longer a child, our columnist Teri Elam still loves reading children’s books.
When they’re written well, it doesn’t matter if books are written for kids or not – they can be enjoyed by all ages. Megan Rogers’ debut “Rosie Finds Her Shine” is one of those books that fits the bill.
A former dancer with the NFL, when Rogers is not at her own dance studio, she is spending time with her husband and three kids. The idea for her book came to her during recital season at her dance studio, and the seed sprouted from there.

4. Dunwoody rallies to support terminally ill mother and her daughter
💸The Dunwoody community is reaching into their pockets to assist a terminally ill mother and her 11-year-old daughter – a rising sixth grader at Peachtree Middle School.
Doctors have told Regina Cleveland, who has Stage 4 colon cancer that has spread throughout her body, that her life expectancy is less than six months. A group of local residents, who have already secured housing for Cleveland and her daughter, want to raise $7,000 to help with medication, rent, and living expenses.
“The little girl in this story is one of our own,” Erika Harris, one of the organizers, said. “Our community has always done such an incredible job of supporting one another in challenging times.”
