Nicholas Tillman, 39, was sentenced to eight months for filming women in the locker room of the fire department where he worked in 2022.

A former Easthampton firefighter has been sentenced to jail after he pleaded guilty to installing secret video cameras in the women’s locker room at a fire department where he worked.

Nicholas Tillman, 39, of Westfield, was sentenced to eight months in jail on three counts of videotaping intimate parts of a person without consent; three counts of videotaping an unsuspecting nude person; and one count of attempted illegal wiretap, Northwestern District Attorney David E. Sullivan said in a press release Monday.

Tillman placed the cameras in the women’s locker room at a fire department where he worked in 2022, according to the release. An Eathampton firefighter who found one of the secret cameras reported it to a supervisor, who notified the police, the D.A.’s office said.

“Easthampton detectives worked with a computer forensics expert with the Northampton Police Department and discovered images of women changing and showering in the locker room gleaned from microSD cards linked to the secret cameras,” the press release said.

The Office of the Attorney General also retrieved additional forensic digital evidence to assist the investigation.

Tillman was arrested in July 2022 and initially pleaded not guilty on a charge of secret sexual surveillance.

Tillman pleaded guilty to the updated charges on April 24. He will be on probation for two years after being released, according to officials.

During probation, Tillman must stay away from the Easthampton Fire Department, have no contact with the two women victims in the case, complete sex offender treatment, and surrender any photos or videos unlawfully obtained to the East Hampton Police Department. He is also not allowed to work as a first responder during his probation.

“The defendant’s actions were a severe violation of the safety and privacy of the two victims deservedly expected in the locker room at their workplace and the trust they had in their fellow first responder,” said Deputy District Attorney Jennifer Suhl in a statement. “The victims showed incredible strength and fortitude in delivering powerful victim impact statements in court, detailing the significant effect the defendant’s criminal actions have had, and will continue to have, on their lives.”

Tillman will be incarcerated at the Hampshire House of Corrections, according to the release.
