Few details released on Monday afternoon shooting involving off-duty cop in Elgin – Chicago Tribune


An off-duty police officer was involved in a shooting near Walnut Avenue and National Street in Elgin, authorities said.

The incident took place about 4:35 p.m. Monday, according to a post on the Elgin Police Department Facebook page.

“No officers from the Elgin Police Department were involved in the incident,” the post said.

The Kane County Major Crimes Task Force is handling the investigation. The Walnut/National intersection has been closed to traffic.

No other details have been released as to what might have happened.

Lakshay Chauhay, manager of the Mobil gas station across from the scene of the shooting, said he was in the office when he heard a loud noise.

“We heard screaming so we came (outside),” Chauhay said as he watched the police investigation. “Everything happened so fast.”
