Easements Atlanta, an organization that protects and stewards more than 45 historic properties across the City of Atlanta, has announced the appointment of Sarah Borcherding as its next executive director.
“As Easements Atlanta celebrates 40 years as Atlanta’s preservation easement non-profit organization, we are excited to welcome Sarah as our new Executive Director,” said Ian Michael Rogers, Easements Atlanta Board of Directors President, in a press release. “Sarah brings experience, dedication, and enthusiasm and we are confident that under her leadership, the organization’s success and impact in achieving its preservation mission will continue to flourish.”
Borcherding earned her Master in Heritage Preservation in May 2023 from Georgia State University (GSU). This was a lifelong goal after an earlier career in nursing. While at GSU, Borcherding spent the two years of her graduate assistantship at Easements Atlanta as the Stewardship Intern. The experience, combined with her interest in architectural history and site documentation, has resulted in a dedication to the stewardship of the historic built environment.
“Preservation easements are the strongest protections historic buildings can carry, protecting them in perpetuity from loss, demolition or unapproved alterations,” Borcherding said. “The [preservation easements] importance as a tool for preserving and maintaining the historic fabric of our city cannot be underestimated.”
Borcherding lives in Dunwoody. She looks forward to continuing the good work of Easements Atlanta, fostering a positive relationship with current property owners, and engaging and educating others in the community who may want to consider a preservation easement for their historic property.
