Dunwoody residents – invited to “taco about it” with a cop – turned out in droves to meet and greet the city’s finest despite threatening weather.

The event, called “Churro with a Cop” was held at Chupito’s Azteca Grille on Dunwoody Village Parkway July 23, with dozens of police officers and attendees enjoying churros and getting the opportunity to talk about community issues in the city.

“I’ve been to a couple of events in the morning, but I thought we could do something in the evening to allow our friends who might not be able to meet during work hours,” Chupito’s owner Darren Benda said. “So far I’m very pleased with the turnout, which includes our customers and friends of the police department.”

Officers at the meet-and-greet posed for pictures and gave out department swag to the young and young at heart. Four-year-old Jackie Fisher, who proudly displayed his honorary badge given to him by Officer C. Dobbins, said he loves the police “because they keep us safe.”

His father, JC Fisher, is on the Dunwoody Police Foundation board of directors. The organizations’ mission is “to support our Dunwoody Police Department in maintaining and improving public safety in the city of Dunwoody.”

According to its website, the foundation provides financial assistance to officers who sustain injuries in the line of duty, enhance community safety to create and foster relationships between the city, businesses and residents, facilitate the purchase of specialized equipment and training and provide education assistance and training for officers.
