Driver sought in hit-and-run in Queens that left two on motorcycle dead otorist who killed to motorcycle riders in Queens hit-and-run

Police are looking for the driver who fled the scene of a fiery crash in Queens on Sunday that left two motorcycle riders dead.

The crash happened around 8:20 p.m. in Elmhurst, when NYPD officials said the driver of a gray Volkswagen Golf hatchback failed to negotiate a curve on 57th Avenue near 82nd Street, crossed the center line and struck a motorcycle in the opposite direction, ejecting two riders.

Police said the Volkswagen continued, with the motorcycle wedged into its front bumper, sideswiping two parked cars. It then burst into flames, along with one of the parked vehicles.

The driver ran away, and could not immediately be identified.

The two motorcycle riders were both pronounced dead — one at the scene, and the other at Elmhurst hospital, according to police.

Their identities had not yet been released Monday morning, as the NYPD worked to notify their families.

Before Sunday night’s crash, two traffic fatalities and 127 accidents had been reported in Elmhurst so far this year, according to NYC Crash Mapper data. Both of the victims were pedestrians.

Only two traffic deaths were reported in the neighborhood for all of 2023.

This is a developing story and may be updated.
