Dunwoody is making plans to celebrate its second annual Diwali in Dunwoody Celebration, a three-day event that showcases the Festival of Lights, one of the most significant South Asian cultural events
Led by Create Dunwoody, the events will be held in several different places in the city from Oct. 17 – 19.
According to a statement, the festivities will take place at the Dunwoody Nature Center and Spruill Center for the Arts Education Center, which will offer an immersive experience to showcase the essence of Diwali
Events include:
Thursday, Oct. 17 and Friday, Oct. 18 – The Story of Diwali: A Vibrant Reenactment – 6:30-8:30p.m., at the Dunwoody Nature Center
Witness the traditional story of Diwali followed by a Diya lighting ceremony, a symbolic gesture representing the triumph of light over darkness. In partnership with Stage Door Theatre and East by Southeast, the event will take place at the Dunwoody Nature Center, where attendees will have the opportunity to hear the story of Diwali through an immersive storytelling walk and partake in the collective celebration. Saturday, Oct. 19 – Rangoli and Diya Workshop – 3 – 6 p.m. – Spruill Center for the Arts
In partnership with the Spruill Center for the Arts, the Rangoli and Diya workshop will provide an interactive experience for families and kids of all ages. Participants will learn how to make rangoli, an art form that is used to welcome prosperity and happiness during the Diwali season. Attendees will also make and decorate Diyas, or clay lamps, that are lit during Diwali to signify triumph of light over darkness. Register here.
