Cross Keys High School Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps. (NJROTC) was recognized at the Brookhaven City Council meeting for its participation in beautifying the city.
Cross Keys NJROTC is a group of nearly 100 young men and women who are dedicated to leadership, community service and fundraising, drill competition, marksmanship training, and physical fitness.
Led by Sgt. Major Theseus Williams, Cross Keys NJROTC asked the city of Brookhaven to create an Adopt-a-Street program over the summer. The group has adopted Curtis Drive from North Druid Hills to Buford Highway. Under the Sustainable Brookhaven umbrella, the program kicked off on Sept. 20 with 78 student volunteers. In just two hours, they collected 10 bags of trash and debris, a Google sign, and Amazon boxes.
Adopt-a-Street is now available citywide for other volunteers or groups to participate.
Cross Keys NJROTC is known for its high achieving, all-female air rifle teams that travel across the southeast to compete in tournaments.
“The team is top-notch,” said Williams. “The seniors want a win so they can to go out on a high note.”
