Derrick White saved his best play for late in the Celtics’ 105-98 win over the Mavericks.
White made three game-altering plays in the final 4:07 of Sunday’s game, stealing an errant pass from Mavericks star Luka Doncic, hitting a 26-point three-pointer and blocking forward P.J. Washington on what would have been a breakaway dunk.
“Just sprinting back, trying to make a play. Obviously they were making a little run there and whatever means necessary, just sprint back and meet him at the rim,” White said about his block.

He also showed off some of his signature humility when asked what he’s thinking as he’s chasing down a player at full sprint for a block.
“Yeah, that’s why I got dunked on earlier,” White said. “But it’s part of the game. I think just that not afraid to get dunked on allows me to get some that maybe some other people wouldn’t have gotten. So just trying to make a play, just believing in my abilities and what I can do.”
Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla cut off a reporter when he was being asked about the block.
“That was sick,” Mazzulla said.
