A 40-year-old Brooklyn motorist faces charges of vehicular manslaughter and other offenses after police said he struck and killed a bicyclist while driving impaired Sunday in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
Can Nomer was behind the wheel of a Volkswagen Tiguan before noon when he barreled into two parked vehicles near Union Avenue and south Lynch Street, before striking 46-year-old Luis Mendez, who was riding a bicycle. Nomer’s vehicle continued on, striking two other vehicles.
Mendez, who also lived in Brooklyn, was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead; Nomer was in stable condition at NYC Health and Hospitals/Kings County.
Police said late on Monday that Nomer was charged with multiple offenses, including vehicular manslaughter in the second degree and operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
