Brookhaven city plans to acquire land for transit infrastructure

The city is planning to acquire a small parcel at 2080 North Druid Hills Road to improve public transit infrastructure in Brookhaven’s medical corridor, nicknamed “Pill Hill.”

At the Nov. 6 Brookhaven City Council meeting, a unanimous vote approved the resolution to acquire the lot from the Georgia Department of Transportation. The city purchased the adjoining parcel at 2068 North Druid Hills Road in 2020 for $650,000.

Located between the Peachtree Creek Greenway and the new Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Arthur M. Blank Hospital, the land is “critical” to adding a transit node and supporting the largest employment hub in the region – Children’s Healthcare and Emory University.

Other business items at the council meeting included:

  • Approval of a street paving contract with Stewart Brothers in the amount of $928,670 for Woodcliff Drive, Old Briarwood Road, Duberry Court, Cortez Way, and Georgiana Drive.
  • Approval of emergency storm sewer repair at Park Creek Cove in the amount of $320,500.
  • Approval to reallocate $485,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds to pay for three emergency repair projects reported after damage by Hurricane Helene in September.
  • Approval to purchase “the bamboo lot” at 1400 Sylvan Circle for a drainage improvement project.

The next Brookhaven City Council meeting will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at Brookhaven City Hall.
