Brookhaven City Council this week put the rubber stamp on its comprehensive plan, a document that should carry the city into 2044.
The inaugural comprehensive plan was passed in 2014. The new version, unanimously approved at the Oct. 8 meeting, is more user friendly, spelling out the city’s goals to focus on housing diversification and equity – including the newly purchased land on Buford Highway where the city plans to build “affordable workforce housing” with the Housing Authority of DeKalb County.
The comprehensive plan also recommends allowing duplexes in all single-family districts, as reflected in the character area policy.
Updated every 10 years according to the city’s charter, the comprehensive plan includes policies and initiatives for character areas, housing diversification, equity, and other planning efforts. Starting in October 2023, the city’s current plan has been under review to reflect priorities on growth and development.
The comprehensive plan was developed by the city of Brookhaven, a steering committee and consultant team led by Blue Cypress Consulting and supported by TSW and Fourth Economy.
