Brookhaven City Council members voted to acquire several properties at its Sept. 10 meeting.
The city is purchasing 926 Devine Circle for $500,000 from the general fund. It’s an empty, half-acre lot adjacent to Lynwood Park. Mayor John Park said the purpose of buying the land is to “expand our parks.”
It is the city’s policy to expand our existing parks when adjacent parcels become available, according to a city spokesperson.
The city council also approved a resolution to acquire an easement at 4151 Ashford Dunwoody Road. The $770,000 purchase will allow the completion of the Ashford Dunwoody Road multi-use path project, which is part of the city’s multimodal plan.
To complete a drainage project, the city approved taking over “the bamboo lot” at 1400 Sylvan Circle. City attorney Jeremy Berry said the vote would allow Brookhaven to go into condemnation proceedings if necessary. Park said the move was “a long time coming.”
The city settled a lawsuit with Alvaro and Luz Cediel for the condemnation of 1401 Briarwood Road necessary for construction of the multi-use path along Briarwood Road. Brookhaven paid out $9,000 in addition to $51,000 already paid.
