The city of Brookhaven is banning non-electric vehicles (EV) from idling or parking in designated EV parking spaces.
At the Aug. 27 city council meeting, city staff recommended that this type of prohibited parking be specified in the code so that the Brookhaven Police Department can enforce compliance.
“The city has found that there are instances in which non-electric vehicles are taking up these designated spaces in violation of their intended use as part of the Sustainable Brookhaven program,” a memo states.
The council voted to amend the city code to ban non-EV vehicles from designated parking spaces.
The Brookhaven City Council had a full agenda for the meeting. In addition to passing a multimodal plan, City Manager Christian Sigman’s contract was renewed for two more years.
“The city manager is humbled and grateful for the council continued support and is looking forward to another two years of progress in Brookhaven,” said Communications Director Burke Brennan.
City council members also voted to approve spending in the consent agenda:
- $178,599 with Axon Enterprise, Inc., for 10 body cameras and safety plans for the Brookhaven Police Department, and
- $190,399 with Flock Group for camera equipment to be used by the Brookhaven Police Department.
There was no discussion or public comment on an ordinance to amend the general fund budget. The council unanimously approved spending $850,000 to supplement the E-911 fund due to increased costs for dispatch services for the remainder of 2024 and into 2025.
The Drew Valley Road repaving is nearing an end as DeKalb County and the city of Brookhaven have coordinated completion of the project. City council members approved a contract for $698,599 plus a contingency with DeKalb’s paving contractor, T&J Industries Development and Contracting, to pave the full width of the road.
The Brookhaven City Council will meet again onTuesday, Sept. 10.
