NICHOLAS AUSTIN

NORWELL

The senior was the South sectional champion in the 100-breaststroke in a meet record time of 57.24. Austin won the Div. 2 state title in that same event, while taking a third in the 200-IM. A South Shore League All-Star and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American. He will be swimming for Bryan University in the fall.

QUINN BORCHERS

MEDFIELD

The four-time Tri-Valley League champion and league MVP was undefeated in dual meets during the regular season. Borchers broke a Div. 2 state record in the 200-IM when he won the event in a time of 1:52.74. He will continue his swimming career at St. Bonaventure in the fall.

NICHOLAS CAVIC

SEEKONK

The junior broke six school records, three of which stood for more than three decades. The two-time team Most Valuable Player was undefeated in every meet, including sectional and state meets. Currently ranked among the top-10 swimmers in New England, Cavic boasts an impressive 4.36 GPA.

RYAN CONNORS

ATTLEBORO

The senior captured the South Sectional and State titles in the 100-yard butterfly. In addition, Connors was part of relay teams which broke all three high school records. He holds the school record in the 100-butterfly (51.04) and the 500-freestyle (4:55). An honor roll student in all four years, Connors will swim at Bryant University in the fall.

NATE DERBY

PLYMOUTH

Derby was the Div. 1 state champion in the 100-breaststroke (57.89), while placing second in the 200-IM (1:56.43). A four-time Patriot League All-Star, Derby is the school record-holder in the 200-freestyle, 200-IM, 50-freestyle, 100-freestyle, 100-backstroke and 100-breaststroke. Derby will swim and study engineering at UMass in the fall.

JACK DEMELLO

COHASSET

The senior took home the Div. 2 state championship in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.53. DeMello also took second in the 100-freestyle (47.21) and also was part of a 200-freestyle relay team which placed sixth. A member of the South Shore Strypers Swim Club, DeMello will continue his swimming career at the University of Maine.

AIDEN GOULDSON

WESTFORD ACADEMY

The sophomore was the Div. 1 state champion in the 200-freestyle (1:43.70) and 100-freestyle (47.84). The team MVP, Gouldson was also the North Sectional winner in the 200-freestyle (1:45.18) and the 100-breaststroke (59.53). A New England Senior Championships A-Finalist and Speedo Sectionals Finalist (North Region US), Gouldson was the team’s Rookie of the Year last year. He is a high honor roll student as well as a recipient of the National Spanish Exam Gold Medal.

EVAN HOAGLUND

WESTON

The senior holds six individual high school swimming records, as well as three relay records. Hoaglund was the Div. 2 state champion in the 100-freestyle (46.33) and took second in the 50-freestyle (21.64). In the offseason, Hoaglund trains at Charles River Aquatics. He has been admitted to the University of Tampa.

VANN HOTCHKISS

NEEDHAM

The junior diving standout set meet records at both the Bay State Conference and South Sectional meets. Hotchkiss successfully defended his title at the Div. 1 State championships. Hotchkiss established new school records in the 6-dive and 11-dive. A two-time Boston Herald All-Scholastic, Hotchkiss is a member of the National Honor Society. In the offseason, Hotchkiss competes at the club level for Boston Area Diving.

JACK MARON

SHARON

The holder of seven school swimming records, the two-time Hockomock League champion broke a South sectional meet record in the 200-IM(1:39.98) and also won the 500-freestyle (4:32.17). At the Div. 1 state meet, Maron took home the gold in the 200-IM (1:50.01) and 500-freestyle (4:31.48). A USA Swimming Scholastic All-American, Maron will swim at Brown University in the fall.

DAVID SAPOZHNIKOV

MEDFIELD

The junior tied for first in the 100-butterfly (51.46) and was part of a winning 200-medley relay (1:39.39) in helping Medfield place second overall at the South Sectionals. A week later, Sapozhnikov captured the 100-butterfly (50.61) at the Div. 2 state championships. In the offseason, he swims for Charles River Aquatics.

 

RELAY TEAMS

200-FREESTYLE RELAY

WESTON

The quartet of Evan Hoaglund, Nate Whitworth, Alex Jylkka and Austin Chiocca won the North Sectional title in the 200-freestyle relay in a winning time of 1:27.66. They bettered that effort a week later in the Div. 2 state championship, posting a victorious time of 1:27.13.

Chiocca is one of two seniors on the relay team along with Hoaglund. He was the North Sectional champion in the 50-freestyle and took second in the 100-freestyle.

Whitworth tallied points for his team in both the 100-freestyle and 100-breaststroke at the Div. 2 state championships and is a member of the National Honor Society. Jylkka is a junior as is Whitworth and he placed among the top five in the 50-freestyle at both the sectionals and states.

200-MEDLEY RELAY

WESTON

Weston’s run to the North Sectional and Div. 2 state team titles was due in large part to its prowess in the relays. The foursome of Eldar Blazh, Evan Hoaglund, Nicolas Frangioni, Nate Whitworth won both the North Sectional (1:37.99) and Div. 2 state titles (1:37.38) in the 200-medley relay. Frangioni took a third in the 100-butterfly (52.55) and fifth in the 100-backstroke (54.82) at the Div. 2 state meet, while Blazh turned in top-10 efforts in both the 100-butterfly and 100-backstroke at the Div. 2 states.

400-FREESTYLE RELAY

LINCOLN-SUDBURY

The team of Graham Skelly, Elijah Dimov, Grant Jackson and Thomas Eppich took home the state title at the Div. 1 championships, posting a winning time of 3:16.29. The RIT-bound Eppich, the only senior in the group, broke a 38-year school record in the 500-freestyle in a dual meet and was the Dual County League champion in the 500-freestyle and 200-IM.

Skelly placed in the top seven in both the 200-freestyle and 100-butterfly at the Div. 1 state championships. A two-time DCL All-Star, Skelly swims for Wayland Community Pool. Dimov placed in the top six in the 200-freestyle and 100-butterfly at the DCL championships and swims for Shawmut Aquatic Club. Jackson placed in the top eight in the 100-freestyle and 100-backstroke at the Div. 1 state championships and currently swims with Crimson Aquatics Boston.
