The Iberian seafood restaurant was one of three eateries from Michael Serpa.

Atlantico, the Iberian-inspired seafood tapas restaurant from Chef Michael Serpa, closed its doors for good after nearly four years in business. 

Prior to the COVID-19 shutdown, Serpa Hospitality had plans to open their third restaurant — following Select Oyster Bar and Grand Tour, with later became Little Whale Oyster Bar — in the spring of 2020. The restaurant didn’t end up opening until October 2020, then it temporarily closed again six weeks later, reports The Boston Globe. 

In a statement from Serpa Hospitality, the decision to close Atlantico was made because of “the evolving neighborhood dynamics and changes in our guests’ dining preferences post-COVID.” The last day of service was June 14. 

“Thank you for the support and cherished memories over the years,” the statement said. “We look forward to welcoming you at our other Serpa Hospitality locations and continuing to serve you with the same passion and quality you’ve come to expect from us.”

Atlantico had opened in the former space of Southern Proper, which served southern food in that South End spot for less than two years. It isn’t immediately clear what’s next for the space. The South End is also home to restaurants with similar Spanish-inspired tapas concepts, like Toro and Estragon Tapas.
