The Fulton County Department of Senior Services seeks volunteers aged 55 and older who may be eligible for its AmeriCorps Senior Companion Program.

AmeriCorps Volunteers serve as friends or companions to Fulton County residents age 55 years old and above to ensure they can live in their own homes for as long as possible, according to a news release from Fulton County.

The volunteers keep seniors independent longer by improving social connection, reducing isolation, and providing respite to family caregivers by aiding seniors with daily living tasks. Volunteer schedules are determined based on mutual availability and need.

Applicants must complete a background check, fingerprinting, and training orientation. Once requirements are met, AmeriCorps Volunteers are eligible to receive the following benefits:

  • $4 per hour stipend, based on income eligibility. Income eligibility is 200 percent income poverty level.
  • Transportation reimbursement and MARTA cards to support volunteer travel.
  • Ongoing volunteer recognition to further incentivize participation.
  • Peer support and engagement with other seniors while enjoying healthy, social activities of mutual interest.

Fulton County Senior Services will host two virtual information sessions from noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1 and Monday, Oct. 14. Advanced registration is not required.

Participants will receive a comprehensive overview of the AmeriCorps Senior Companion program and can ask additional questions.  For more information about the program, call (404)N 613-6000 or email seniorservices@fultoncountyga.gov.
