Lucknow Super Giants have entered the IPL from the year 2022 and then made it to the playoffs in both the seasons. But this team could not win the title. This season the team has made changes in the coaching staff and recently included former South African all-rounder in the team as an assistant coach.
The next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is around the corner. The teams have started preparations for this. The Lucknow Super Giants team, which is playing IPL for the first time in 2022, had made it to the playoffs in both the last seasons but the team could not play the final. This season the team has made a lot of changes. The franchise has almost completely changed the coaching staff. Former Australian opener Justin Langer has been made the coach of the team in place of Andy Flower. And now South Africa’s legendary all-rounder has been included in the team. The team has appointed former South African all-rounder Lance Klusener as its assistant coach.
Klusener has been associated with the Super Giants franchise before also. He was the coach of Durban Super Giants in the SA20 League and under him the team reached the final this season. However, the team could not win the title. Klusener, along with Langer and S Sriram, will try to get the team its first title. The franchise has given this information by posting a post on social media site X. The franchisee has written in the post, Our friend came from Durban.
This is what coaching career is like
Klusener retired from cricket in 2004 and after this he remained in the coaching staff of many teams. He was associated with Mumbai Indians at the beginning of IPL. Apart from this, he was also the head coach of Zimbabwe and Afghanistan teams. He has coached in Indian domestic cricket. He has also been the coach of Tripura team. Klusener also has experience of winning the league. Guyana Amazon Warriors won the Caribbean Premier League title last year under his coach. This was the first title of this franchise. If we look at his career as a player, he played 49 test matches for South Africa in which he took 1906 runs and 80 wickets. He scored 3576 runs in 171 ODI matches. He was also successful in taking 192 wickets in ODIs.
Pandya removed
Lucknow had recently taken another big decision. The vice-captaincy has been snatched from Krunal Pandya, who was the vice-captain of the team for the last two seasons, and given to West Indies’ Nicholas Pooran. Pandya captained the team last year after KL Rahul was injured. But this season the responsibility has been taken away from him. KL Rahul is currently injured and that is why he is not playing in the Test series against England. However, there is every hope that he will be fit before the start of IPL. IPL is starting from 22nd March. However, the complete schedule of the league has not come yet. The schedule of only 21 matches has been announced.
