Gas leak forces evacuation of State Capitol, MARTA station


The State Capitol, Georgia State MARTA Station and other buildings have been evacuated due to a large gas leak in Downtown Atlanta.

According to the Georgia Department of Public Safety, construction crews struck a gas main just after 9 a.m. while working at the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Piedmont Avenue.

Vehicle and pedestrian traffic is also being rerouted. Officials are urging people to avoid the area.

According to Fox 5, air readings are being monitored and people with respiratory issues are being advised to take precautions.
