Tropical Cooking with Von Diaz


Join celebrated food writer Von Diaz for a captivating panel session where she explores the vibrant and diverse culinary traditions of tropical islands from her latest book, Islas: A Celebration of Tropical Cooking. Discover 125 recipes and stories that highlight the rich flavors and ancestral techniques of islands across the Indian, Atlantic, and Pacific Oceans, bringing the essence of tropical cooking to your kitchen.

The speaker session will be held on Sat., Oct. 5th at 11:15 a.m. on the Local Palate Culinary Stage in Carreker Hall of the First Baptist Church of Decatur. Emceed by Ligaya Figueras, AJC’s Senior Editor for Food & Dining, the event will feature a 45-minute discussion with Von. Following the session, Von will proceed to the signing tables to autograph books.

About the Moderator

George Weinstein is the Executive Director of the historic Atlanta Writers Club (established in 1914) and has helped thousands of writers on their quest for publication through the Club and the twice-yearly Atlanta Writers Conference, which he has managed for 16 years. He also is the author of a diverse range of novels, including the beloved Southern historical novel Hardscrabble Road; its 2022 sequel, Return to Hardscrabble Road; the novel of forgotten U.S. history The Five Destinies of Carlos Moreno; the domestic drama of reinvention The Caretaker; the amateur-sleuth murder mystery Aftermath, the kidnapping thriller Watch What You Say, and even a satirical sci-fi romp titled Offlining.
