Is your NYC subway station gross? There’s a new way to complain about it.


Is your subway station falling apart? The MTA wants to hear from you directly.

The transit authority announced on Tuesday that its group station managers will hold office hours for riders twice a month at subway stations during morning and evening rush hours. Each manager is in charge of about two dozen stations, overseeing their maintenance and upkeep.

Then-NYC Transit President Andy Byford introduced the group station manager roles in 2018, with the purpose of improving cleanliness and customer service at subway stations. The initiative was put on hold during the COVID-19 pandemic but started back up in 2022, according to the MTA.

Sandrea Flowers, who supervises stations in the Bronx and Upper Manhattan, said at a press conference on Tuesday that she was looking forward to speaking with riders during the new office hours.

“We’ll be out there listening to the customers, actively listening to the customers, engaging with them and … answering any of their questions, right there on the spot,” she said.

Demetrius Crichlow, the interim president of NYC Transit, said other MTA staff would also be available to hear from customers about any issues they’re facing.

“Office hours will present opportunities also for executives within subways to be able to come out and show support as well,” he said.

MTA officials said the program is already underway and that office hours will be displayed on digital screens and posters in subway stations.
