4 dead in Bronx and Brooklyn shootings over the weekend

Four people were killed in gun violence incidents across New York City over the weekend, including two men who were gunned down near a Brooklyn migrant shelter, according to police.

A 21-year-old man and another man in his 30s were fatally shot Sunday night within blocks of the Hall Street migrant shelter in Clinton Hill, NYPD officials said. Officers responded to one shooting near Flushing Avenue and Steuben Street around 10:45 p.m. and the other just a few minutes later in front of 29 Ryerson St.

Both men were pronounced dead at area hospitals. Police have not yet said if they’ve identified the men or released their names.

A 59-year-old man was also shot in the incident on Ryerson Street and was listed in critical condition, according to NYPD officials.

It wasn’t immediately clear on Monday morning if police had made any arrests in those two incidents. Brooklyn Councilmember Crystal Hudson, whose district includes the area, said in a statement that police had “apprehended” a suspect and believed the shootings near the migrant center were related, but the NYPD has not confirmed any of those details.

“We mourn this senseless loss of life and remain committed to fighting gun violence across our city,” Hudson said. She said she was in touch with Mayor Eric Adams’ office and the NYPD and would continue to update the community.

More deadly weekend shootings

In a different incident around 6 p.m. on Sunday, 41-year-old Raheem Blake was shot in the chest in front of his building on Park Avenue near East 161st Street in the Bronx’s Concourse Village neighborhood. He was pronounced dead at Lincoln Hospital, according to police.

NYPD officials said detectives were working to identify a motive for the shooting, and did not have any descriptions of a possible suspect.

Two hours earlier in the Bronx neighborhood of Castle Hill, 52-year-old Jose Baez was fatally shot in front of a building on Bruckner Boulevard near Pugsley Avenue.

Police said they were looking for two people who fled the scene: a man with a white shirt and black pants and another man wearing a blue shirt, blue jeans and a red hat.
