Two men from Chicago and another from the west suburbs have each been sentenced to several years in federal prison after guilty pleas on robbery charges, including holding up a UPS driver in Oak Park and carjacking motorists there and in other nearby areas.

Jaheim Henyard, 22, of Chicago, was sentenced to 11 years and three months in federal prison.

Darius Young, 28, of west suburban Berwyn, was sentenced to four years.

Xavier Tate, 27, of Chicago, was sentenced to seven years and nine months.

The federal sentences were handed down this month by U.S. District Judge Sara L. Ellis, according to an April 26 FBI news release..

According to the release, which detailed the crimes and sentences, on Aug. 21, 2020, all three men robbed a UPS truck in Oak Park, ordering the driver to lie face down on the ground as they removed boxes from the truck then sped off.

“All three defendants pleaded guilty and admitted their roles in the heist,” authorities stated in the release.

Additionally, Henyard committed three carjackings and two street robberies in Chicago, Oak Park and neighboring west suburban Cicero in Aug. 2020 – all within days of each other, according to authorities. He also carjacked a motorist in December 2019 in the parking lot of a grocery store in the west suburban town of Westchester.

During the Westchester carjacking, an accomplice with Henyard and the person they were victimizing exchanged gunfire. The motorist had a concealed carry license, authorities explained in the release. Henyard had also attempted to carjack another vehicle at gunpoint in Oak Park in July 2020, but was unsuccessful.

Authorities said Henyard’s plea included the four carjackings and the attempted one. It was not immediately clear where Henyard is being held.

As of May 2, Young was being held in Cook County Jail. He is scheduled to appear in court May 28 at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse in Chicago, according to the Cook County sheriff’s office.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons indicates as of May 2 that Tate is being held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in downtown Chicago.

The Chicago, Oak Park and Cicero police departments investigated the incidents, with assistance from the Cook County state’s attorney’s office, the release states. The government was represented by assistant U.S. attorneys Charles Mulaney and Simar Khera.
