1. 28 arrested at Emory University Pro-Palestine, Stop Cop City protest

🪧 Pro-Palestinian protesters and opponents of the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center clashed with law enforcement on the campus of Emory University on Thursday morning with 28 arrests being made.

Stop Copy City and Free Palestine protesters set up tents on the quad at Emory University early in the morning demanding the school divest from Israel. The encampment is similar to other protests occurring across the country at colleges and universities, most notably at Columbia in New York City.

By 10 a.m., the Atlanta Police Department was making arrests, and Emory Police were shutting off access to areas of the campus. APD said in a statement that it did deploy “chemical irritants” after it was “met with violence” from protesters.

2. In ‘Challengers,’ life is a competition and tennis is sex

WEEKLY FILM REVIEW | BY SAMMIE PURCELL

🎾 Every scene in Luca Guadagnino’s “Challengers” is a competition.

Tashi (Zendaya), Art (Mike Faist), and Patrick (Josh O’Connor) might be tennis players, but their competitive nature rears its head in nearly every aspect of their lives. Every conversation ripples with tension, the precarious nature of the triangle they’ve built for themselves threatened with every heated glance, every stony word, every attempt to one-up the other however they can. And then, there are the scenes of actual competition, which feel like sex by way of tennis.

Tennis, much like sex, is a transference of power – a relationship, if you will. It’s a back-and-forth where the momentum changes constantly, where you’re on top one moment and on the bottom the next. “Challengers” takes that power struggle and injects it through the whole of its characters’ lives, showing what it looks like to vie for the top-dog position both on the court and between the sheets. The result is one of Guadagnino’s best, a ferocious outing that buzzes with eroticism, somehow leaving you wanting more while feeling like you could run a marathon by its end.

3. Vibe clinch top spot; Braves on fire

Skylar Salisbury, host of Big Sky Buckets, is back with this week’s sports update.

🏈 The Bears selected USC quarterback Caleb Williams as the overall top pick in last night’s NFL Draft. In a surprise move, the Falcons took QB Michael Penix Jr. of Washington in the first round. The Raiders drafted Georgia’s Brock Bowers with the 13th pick.

⚽ Following a loss to Cincinnati last weekend, Atlanta United looks to bounce back on the road against the Chicago Fire tomorrow at 8:30 p.m. (Apple TV+).

⚾ The Braves, who are 9-1 in their last ten games, wrap up a homestand this weekend with the first of three games against Cleveland tonight at 7:20 p.m. (BSS).

💰 Caitlin Clark landed a historic $28 million shoe deal with Nike, making it the largest deal ever for a WNBA player.

🏀 The Atlanta Dream became the second WNBA team in history to ever sell out their season tickets. Defending champs Las Vegas Aces had the first sell-out last month. Single-game tickets for the Dream are now on sale.

⚾ In the wee hours of Thursday morning, UGA won a chaotically entertaining 15-inning stunner of a college baseball game. After Chandler Marsh pitched five strikeouts in a row, a walk-off from infielder Paul Totez clinched the win over Clemson 4-3.

🏐 Atlanta’s newest professional team, the Vibe, is making waves in women’s pro volleyball. In their inaugural season, the Vibe has clinched the top spot in the Pro Volleyball Federation postseason.
